Situated on a sunny bay of southern Florida, facing the Gulf of Mexico, Naples is a city which shares more than its name, climate and natural appeal with the original Naples in Italy. Fishing, and plenty of it, is another shared pastime between the two and in Naples Florida this remains the most popular leisure activity, helped all the more when no permits are required. The beaches, the fishing and the boat trips all play their part in making the city a very popular visitor destination but there is a culture and a soul to Naples behind its famous shoreline.
A part of the Paradise Coast which also incorporate the Everglades and Marco Island, it is easy to see why many people spend their vacations taking in the sights and outdoor activities, but many more choose to spend their time on the beach, voted the best in all America, and enjoying the culture of a city which topped the list of small art cities in America. The views and the ambience of the place certainly inspire the artists but anyone who spends some time here cannot fail but draw some inspiration of their own and in Naples Florida hotels provide the impetus and start point to do just that.
The downtown area of the city is where to find all the art galleries and antique stores, centred around 3rd Street South and 5th Avenue South. For more upmarket shopping there is The Village on Venetian Bay,. And the Waterside Shops near the Tamiami Trail. The most famous shopping district is however Tin City, situated on Naples Bay and the Gordon River. An open air shopping experience, there is everything on display from antiques to local hand made crafts, with a further diversity of wares available at the nearby Big Cyprus Market Place. There are many live performance events in the downtown district also, the best known being those staged by the Naples Players.
As well as the Everglades National Park there are many more nature reserves close to the city and any of them will make for a memorable day trip. The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary encompasses over 10,000 acres of protected natural landscape, to be enjoyed from a boardwalk which winds its way through it, and with Picayune Strand State Forest, Big Cyprus National Preserve, Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge and Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, there are ample ways in which to take in the wildlife habitats and natural landscapes of the area.
The most prized natural landscape closer to home is the beach. Characterised by more than 10 miles of immaculate white sand along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, there are defined stretches which are serviced for the tourists. These are associated with Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park, Loudermilk Beach Park, Clam Pass Beach Park, and are also found at Vanderbilt Beach, North Gulfshore Boulevard Beach, and Naples Municipal Beach, where the long pier provides for some excellent fishing points. With no fishing permit required, simply bring your own equipment or hire it from any of the numerous fishing gear and tackle shops.
Naples has a reputation as a high class resort and it is home to many rich and famous residents. It is a reputation which is justified especially when it comes to the finest hotels which often have a very grand and exclusive appeal, whether in the heart or the city or occupying a prime spot on the beach. There are many less exclusive, and less pricey options too however giving plenty of choice for most people to enjoy the city and the much celebrated natural surrounds.
